**Available to meet in Kent**
Meet AJ, our beautiful flat coated retriever . AJ is a real cuddly bear with a gentle soul who has untold amounts of love to give. He is 1 year old and 30/32kg. He had a really terrible start in life and was kept tied up on a short chain so is still learning how to be a dog,
He is currently in foster in Birchington and has come on leaps and bounds since arriving. He has learnt sit, down and off and is just beginning to learn to play with toys. He is very friendly and playful with the dogs currently in the home and always has a waggy tail around them. He is also fantastic with next doors kids, very gentle and accepting. AJ really enjoys chewing big knuckle bones and Kongs to keep him busy.
He is a great lead walker and doesn't pull but he can still jump up for attention and needs a firm no to get down. Although AJ is fab with the dogs in the home and out on walks if he is approached/startled head on by another dog whilst on the lead he can give a growl and does need a firm no and he WILL stop. He can also bark when on lead when he wants go and play with the other dogs and is not allowed to go over. This is something that can be easily corrected with time and training (ideally with a trainer). AJ currently has a dog walker that walks him each day and she says what a great boy he is to walk.
Due to his size AJ needs a larger breed experienced adopter and one who is ok to put in firm boundaries with him as this has seemed to worked wonders for him in foster... AJ is house trained and crate trained. He isn't a vocal dog generally but can bark when he is excited or a little startled (for example of someone comes running down the stairs to fast he can give a little bark) - all of this will go with time as he is very new to "normal' living and is still learning and adjusting. He needs an adopter who appreciates his hard past and who has experience with fine tuning things.
This dog really is an absolute super star and deserves that home that has the time and patience to settle in and train a street dog and understand he may have some hurdles to over come.
People are most welcome to come and spend some time with AJ over the next few weeks and take him out on some walks etc and get to know him and bond with him ...we would prefer anyone wanting to adopt him does come and spend a little time with him so when he does move the adjustment is easier for him.
Please get in touch if you can give our big love bug a place to call home
