Many of you have followed Barney’s unbelievably long and very sad journey at this rescue and also watched his incredible transformation. Barney has suffered a vast amount of trauma in his short life and arrived to us a completely shut down dog that wouldn’t even eat. Barney was initially adopted as a Romanian stray after having endured harrowing abuse as a puppy, abuse that no dog should ever have to go through.
After spending 2 years in a home, he was relinquished to our Kent kennels after the household got busier with a new-born baby and Barney was not able to cope with being thrown in at the deep end. Kennels absolutely crucified this dog, and his future was looking very bleak. There were days where we had run out of options as to how to make progress with him and there were many times he had the staff in tears. Every single member of this rescue has put their heart and soul into this chap’s rehabilitation.
After working with our incredible trainer, Barney’s confidence began to grow and they said of him at the time “Barney is one of the kindest, sweetest dogs I have ever worked with. Beneath his nervousness lies a true gentleman who simply wants to be loved and cuddled. Whoever adopts Barney will gain not just an incredible dog, but a loyal companion. His fun, cheeky personality is starting to shine through as he builds confidence. He is only just learning that it is okay to let loose, play with his toys and enjoy life. With patience and understanding Barney will blossom into an extraordinary companion. I am genuinely envious of whoever is lucky enough to welcome this beautiful boy into their home. He is a hidden gem just waiting to be discovered”.
In fact, they were so envious, they decided they just couldn’t let him go and decided to adopt him themselves!
We couldn’t be happier for this outcome for Barney. He is still a nervous dog, having been through so much, but he is now in expert hands and we can’t wait to see him continue to thrive in his new, loving and forever home.
