Calling all semi- experienced dog owners! Meet Ace, our gorgeous smiley boy!

Ace is a gorgeous 5 year old Shepherd Mix, love bug with the most infectious smile!
Despite everything he has been through recently, Ace seems to have a permanent smile on his face. Sadly, his dad has passed away, and his mum is no longer well enough to give Ace the walks and exercise he needs. Losing his main person has been a huge change for him, and although this decision has been incredibly difficult, the kindest thing is to find Ace a new home where he can have the happy, active life he deserves.
At just 5 years old, Ace absolutely loves his walks so very much, so we would really love to find Ace a home that can offer him two nice walks a day. He is in general a very well rounded dog that shouldn’t be an issue for any good dog owner. Ace is a very environmentally sound dog. He is good with passing bikes, people, kids, cars, trains, busy towns and you can take him pretty much anywhere but he does need to time to relax on the first few days of being homed as this is where he can be a tad unsure of himself.

❤️ Good with all dogs on his walks (he pretty much just ignores them and if one is reactive to him he is totally submissive and hides behind your legs)
❤️ Happy to live as the only dog or with a very calm, laid back canine companion that won’t overwhelm him
❤️ Walks well on and off the lead (although off – lead will take some time after bonding to the family)
❤️ Gentle when taking treats and knows some basic commands
❤️ Is fantastic in the car
❤️ Good with visitors in the home (all currently including young visiting grandchildren)
❤️ Is clean in the house and can be left alone
❤️ A lovely, affectionate all rounder with a heart of gold
Ace has also had scale and polish, so those beautiful pearly whites can keep flashing that famous smile!
Cats, however, aren’t Ace’s thing , so he would need a cat free home.
Ace has never lived with a dog before but is fine with them on walks and has had doggie pals in the past that he has had play dates with. He particularly likes well rounded, calm dogs and will actively engage in play with them if he has met them a few times and trusts that they are safe. If he is to be homed with another dog we would prefer them to be submissive, nice and laid back and kind as he gets a bit frightened when a dog is overly keen on him.
Ace can get very excited when meeting people and may jump up a little, so we’d prefer any children in his new home to be 12+, simply because he could accidentally knock younger children over in his enthusiasm.
Honestly, you really do need to meet this boy to appreciate just how special he is. He is gentle, loving, full of personality and has the most wonderful smile and anyone would be incredibly lucky to have Ace by their side.
All Ace needs now is someone willing to take things at his pace, give him time to settle when transitioning and generally just offer him a laid back approach and nice walks.
𝐒𝐚𝐝𝐥𝐲 𝐀𝐜𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬 adopted out once and then r𝐞𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 a couple of 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐧, 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐧𝐨 𝐟𝐚𝐮𝐥𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐰𝐧. 𝐖𝐞 were 𝐚𝐛𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐠𝐮𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐨𝐫 𝐛𝐨𝐲 𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐬𝐨 𝐦𝐮𝐜𝐡 and it honestly wasn’t his fault.
Just a couple of hours into his new home Ace was clearly feeling a little overwhelmed with all that was going on, the multiple people asking for his attention and all the news things that were being asked of him and he gave a tiny lip curl to the teenage son when he came over to join him on the sofa. It was so minor and to be honest, we are gutted we have to disclose this on his advert as we know this will impact his chances of being picked again but it would be unprofessional of us not to mention it. This has never happened in the 5 years he has been in his current home, not even around young kids. We are sure that this was very likely just down to too much going on and the stress and newness of moving to a new home. Any experienced dog owner will know it is actually a super common behaviour that is SO quickly solved when a dog is over whelmed. He didn’t growl, lunge or bite he just gave a short lip curl and that was that. This could be so easily remedied and likely needed a bit more time for him to bond with everyone in the home and a calm off the sofa whilst he found his feet but unfortunately this was enough to get Ace sent straight back to rescue.

𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐨𝐰𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐚 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐩𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐝 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐀𝐜𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐞 𝐚 𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮! Other than this once small incident he was as good as gold and was behaving like the perfect dog.
