Kittens – The Medway Girls!

Many of you may remember Gwen, who arrived to us a sick, pregnant stray from Medway, Kent in April who successfully birthed six wonderful babies. Weeks later we welcome two more of her daughters and her babies, and last week we welcomed another one of her daughters and her six babies! Since April, Flori’s Friends Rescue have taken in 30 cats JUST from Gwen (this is without the other cats in our care). This means one unneutered cat has produced 30 cats in the space of a few months, and this number would have been even greater had we not trapped and neutered them!

Our darling matriarch Gwen has now found herself a fabulous forever home as have her kittens and some of her grandchildren. The rescue is now left with 6 of her new-born grandchildren to home and her 8 month old feral daughters Ginny and Gigi to tame down into companion animals. The taming down has been a challenge for the rescue as handling those two girls initially resulted in a trip to A and E. To tame these two spicy girls down they have been moved into smaller runs in the main front room and our lovely team are sleeping on the floor with them and spending every spare second handing them and hand feeding them. Huge progress has been made and we are completely over the moon about it but there is still a fairly long road ahead. Letting those two back out onto the streets was not an option for Team Flori as we truly believe all animals deserve a chance and we knew they had it in them to enjoy human love again.

We hope a lesson can be learned from this Medway saga that has been so challenging for the rescue. That lesson is to please neuter your cats. If you are unable to afford to neuter your cat and you live in Kent please reach out to us via our online contact forms and we can either neuter your pet for you at a discounted rate or point you to a local scheme that can.

If you would like to open your home to a pair of our wonderful kittens, we would also love to hear from you!
