In June 2025, we were made aware of a feral colony of more than 40 cats living on a caravan site, where they were being abused by some of the residents. Kittens were reportedly struck with hammers. Adult cats were kicked and terrorised. The cruelty was shocking.
We couldn’t take all 40—but we knew we had to do everything we could to help as many as possible.
With the support of Flori’s Friends, 15 of these feral cats were rescued. Eight were taken to the vets for urgent treatment, neutering, and vaccination before moving on to other rescues. The most severely traumatised cats, however, stayed with us—in true Flori’s style. These are cats who are far too damaged to be rushed out the door.
We expect these cats to be with us long term. Rehabilitation can take years, and some may never fully adjust to life as pets. We do not push them. Instead, we give them safety, space, and the comfort of remaining with the companions they love. They are regularly fed, cared for, and gently supported, with the hope that one day they may choose to trust humans again.
All of the cats in this colony are FIV positive and require daily supplementation. Several also suffer from inflammatory bowel disease, meaning they need specialist diets and ongoing veterinary care.
The girls from this colony who are available to sponsor as a group are Tanya, Tina, and Tracey. Sponsorship helps cover their daily food, vitamins, medical care, litter, and the small comforts—like treats—that help them feel safe.
This is a truly special colony—one nobody wanted to help. Forever overlooked for being black, feral, and frightened.
But here, they matter.
And here, they are safe.
